El Campello Alicante Fish Market: The town of El Campello and its history have for all time been connected to the sea and to its fishermen. For many centuries and particularly during the 19th and early 20th centuries fishing was the major economic activity of the town and area.

As you would expect the fish market is located in the port and you can make your way down there on weekdays to see all the activity of local fishermen and fish buyers.

The fishing port is actually quite large and has mooring spaces for 474 craft, and the fish market (Lonja del Pescado) attracts plenty of visitors both to purchase fish and simply watch all the activity going on. The fish market is open on weekdays (Mon-Fri 6pm to 8pm) and each day a fresh fish auction takes place along with the sale of fresh fish to the general public.

The historic tower dates back to the sixteenth century, and was constructed to warn residents of threats by Barbary pirates.

Location of El Campello: The resort is located on the N-332 highway between Benidorm and Alicante it is about 33 kilometres from the nearest airport (Alicante), a drive of about 30 minutes, it is thirty six kilometres from the resort of Benidorm and 13 kilometres from the city of Alicante with its myriad places to visit and splendid shopping opportunities.

The town has a resident population of around 26,043, it has a municipal area of 21 square miles, and is at a height of 26 metres above sea level. The postal code for the town is 03560.

A busy time for the area is during October, when its famous Moors and Christians celebration takes place, there are mock battles, firework displays, and parades and the local people dress up in colourful and elaborate costumes.
